Mamma.com Announces Search Distrubution Agreement with YAHOO!

Mamma.com Inc., a leader in Internet search and online advertising, announced an extension to an agreement with Yahoo! Search Marketing, to provide Canadian targeted search traffic to Yahoo! Canada.

The Company aggregates traffic worldwide from both owned Web properties such as Mamma.com, as well as from partners and affiliates. By using intelligent geo targeting technology, Mamma.com automatically directs its search traffic to appropriate paid link content suppliers companies like Yahoo! for Europe, and Australia, and now, Canada.

“We look forward to expanding our relationship with Yahoo! Canada to cover the Canadian market”, said Patrick Hopf Executive Vice President - Business Development at Mamma.com. “According to Media Metrix’s recently released December audit, we have tripled our Canadian user base over the last twelve months. Our strategy is to expand our efforts into further emerging Pay per Click (PPC) markets, and harness our search targeting technology to grow our distribution business.”

Link Buying: The Unadulterated Truth

There’s no denying that the number of inbound links is one of the most critical elements to optimizing a site to rank well in search. The methods employed in obtaining those links, however, is a platform for both ethical and practical debate. With all factors considered, is buying links a good idea?

If you asked Matt Cutts, he would probably be inclined to disagree. Of course, as a Googler, he’s supposed to take that stance. I wouldn’t expect Matt to have any position other than one of opposition toward the practice of link buying.

Ethically, one could probably make the case that buying links could be a reprehensible tactic. Basically, you’re buying an endorsement from someone who may not have been willing to do so until cash was involved. Where’s the value in that kind of linkage?
