AOL acquires online marketing provider TradeDoubler

Source: news.searchenginestoday.org

Overall, AOL hopes to increase its online advertising business in Europe with its planned acquisition of TradeDoubler, a Swedish provider of online marketing services, for $1.05 billion.

TradeDoubler’s online marketing services offering includes hosted analytic tools that help customers simplify the creation, management, analysis and optimization of online marketing and sales activities.

AOL’s planned acquisition will complement its existing European online advertising effort, which is presently based on services from Advertising.com, a company AOL bought a little over two years ago.

Yahoo will soon drop its keyword inventory tool

Source: news.searchenginestoday.org

For many years the public Yahoo Inventory Tool (YIT) was frequently criticized for its lack of accuracy. In 2007, and as Yahoo is hinting it will no longer support it, the SEM industry is quickly realizing how relevant the tool was in shaping the industry.

Originally dubbed as the Overture Keyword Suggestion Tool, the Internet-based application allowed users to identify the number of times a keyword or search term was queried across the Yahoo network during the previous month.

Overall, letting them choose the right keyword was powerful.” While John Battelle’s concept of “the database of intentions” might be based on what is under Google’s system, it was Overture (now Yahoo) that first made this data available to everyday people.

Source: blogs.webpronews.com

There’s news going around that Google has or introduced a new algorithm designed to eliminate Googlebombs (or linkbombs as they should be called).

In case you are not familiar, a linkbomb is an attempt to influence search rankings by pointing a contextual phrase - like “miserable failure” - to a site you want associated with that phrase. The goal is to get enough links using the chosen contextual phrase pointing to the targeted destination site. The more of these links you have, the higher the probability search results would adjust their results accordingly.

The most popular of these linkbombs was probably the “miserable failure” campaign, which resulted in current US President George Bush’s biography page receiving the top search result for the phrase in question. With the introduction of Google’s new anti-linkbomb algorithm, results for the “miserable failure” query have changed: a BBC article discussing the original “miserable failure” linkbomb is now the first position result.
