This article is based mainly on an original article by Google founders Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page but also on hearsay, speculation and rumours. Google is not interested in allowing the public to know exactly how the PR is calculated since it is then easier to trick or cheat the search engine and since this would undermine its credibility. It does however appear that a variation over the basic formula is still used.
Google assigns a PR of between 0 and 10 to all pages which it indexes. It is possible to install a Google toolbar which shows the PR when you visit a page. The toolbar can be downloaded from http://toolbar.google.com/.
In reality, the PR is a value between 0 and ‘a very large number’. A logarithmic scale is most likely used to translate the value into the PR we know. A logarithmic scale works so values may be translated as follows:
- Values 0.1 to 1 results in PR 0
- Values 1 to 10 results in PR 1
- Values 10 to 100 results in PR 2
- Values 100 to 1000 results in PR 3 etc

Yahoo Inc. (YHOO.O), in partnership with Reuters, is inviting the public to contribute eyewitness photos and videos of news events, in the latest move to turn spectators into on-the-spot journalists.
The Internet media company said it has created a news contribution system called "You Witness" and is working with news and information company Reuters Group Plc (RTR.L), which will edit and distribute selected photos to other news outlets.
Yahoo plans to run selected images contributed by users as part of topical packages on Yahoo News, which currently offers news from dozens of professional news organizations including Associated Press, CNN and Reuters.
With hundreds of millions of camera phones in circulation, consumers are able to take high-quality photos and videos.
The South Asian tsunami, the London Underground bombings and the impact of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans have showcased the power of people who happen to be in the wrong place at the right time to capture history as it happens.

Nearly a year ago, ABC News signed a deal with the BBC to become the exclusive distributor of the channel’s broadband content throughout North America. Today’s announcement leverages Yahoo! News as the primary platform for BBC News video distribution pursuant to the January agreement.
"The BBC has established itself as an unparalleled global news-gathering organization, and its content will be a tremendous complement to the world class news already available on our site," said Scott Moore, head of news and information for Yahoo! Media Group.
"The BBC has a cool factor with younger audiences, a natural fit for Yahoo! News users who are generally younger than audiences at other news organizations."
