YouTube.com & Verizon : Mobile Video

The agreement with Verizon is YouTube’s first major deal with a wireless carrier as it tries to extend the reach of its Internet video content beyond personal computers. YouTube, which was acquired by the Mountain View, Calif., Internet company for $1.65 billion, has attracted a huge audience for the videos on its site, which consist mainly of amateur films, home movies and clips of TV shows and musical performances.

Now YouTube is going mobile. Verizon Wireless, a joint venture of Verizon Communications Inc. and Vodafone Group PLC, will have exclusive rights to YouTube’s mobile content for a “limited” time. The companies won’t say for how long. Over time, YouTube is likely to seek similar partnerships with the other leading cellular operators, including Cingular Wireless, a joint venture of AT&T Inc. and BellSouth Corp., Sprint Nextel Corp., and T-Mobile USA Inc. . .

Are Linkbait Campaigns Hurt By NoFollow?

During the 2006 Las Vegas PubCon, the catch phrase of the week was linkbait. The idea is to create compelling enough content that your niche’s audience (and beyond) will want to link to your work. Most of the time, this content is distributed through blog entries or articles focusing on the subject you are targeting. It’s a simple concept really - create interesting enough content and people will link to you.

Because of the nature of this golden content (blogs, articles and feeds), many links will probably come from social bookmark sites like Digg.com or tag havens like . Members of the blogosphere are also known as being an active linkers to any content they find worthwhile and the same applies to the MySpace and Facebook crowd (great places to attempt viral marketing campaigns).

However, some WebProWorld members are skeptical of links from coming from the social bookmarking scene and after reading through the post, their primary concern comes from the “nofollow” link attribute that sites like del.icio.us are using. What’s the point of targeting the social network scene if tagging hubs (and bloggers) are using a command that tells search bots to ignore the outgoing link?

Nokia To Offer More Yahoo! Mobile Services

Yahoo! And Nokia today announced plans to offer Yahoo! Mail and Messenger on Nokia’s mobile phones that operate on the Series 40 platform. These services will initially be available on the newly announced Nokia 6300, the Nokia 5300 XpressMusic and the Nokia 5200.

Nokia and Yahoo! have been working together since 2005 in efforts to bring Yahoo’s services to the mobile marketplace. In today’s announcement, the two companies outlined the services that will be made available to Nokia users in the coming months:

Yahoo! Mail
•   Have your familiar Yahoo! Mail on your Nokia device
•   Easily manage messages through the phone’s messaging inbox
•   Store new messages locally on the device to allow for offline access

Yahoo! Messenger
•   Send and receive messages and use emoticons on a mobile device just like on PC
•   Set presence information to show your friends and family when you are available to chat, and view presence information to know when they are online too
