The Latimes.com launched its RSS (Really Simple Syndication) subscription service, Los Angeles Times NewsPoint, which can be used by latimes.com readers to customize personal news feeds and additional online content for automatic delivery to their desktops.Los Angeles Times NewsPoint was created jointly with Consenda, a Swiss-American media software developer specializing in online content delivery.

Los Angeles Times NewsPoint enables users to aggregate news headlines and editor-recommended content from latimes.com, as well as RSS feeds from other websites and blogs. When new updates are posted in the feeds they have specified, the service alerts users and streams the latest headlines in a desktop ticker. It comes pre-loaded with the most popular sections of latimes.com, latimes.com blogs, as well as the video feed from Los Angeles-area WB affiliate and latimes.com partner, KTLA.

“Working with Consenda, we are able to offer our readers the convenience of being able to aggregate the information that most interests them and then have it delivered effortlessly to their desktops,” said Rob Barrett, general manager of latimes.com.

“With so much information out there, receiving a good recommendation from a trusted source has become as important as using a quality search engine. We are delighted to be working with latimes.com given that their unique coverage, particularly of Southern California and the entertainment industry, provides an excellent context to introduce mainstream users to the speed and convenience of feed-based updates and recommendations,” said Xavier Ferguson, CEO of Consenda.

Expect NewsPoint to grow beyond LATimes.com to its other properties as more and more readers abandon the traditional newspaper for qucik and custom desktop news.
