How to Make Money From Your Blog

StevePavlina.com was launched 19 months ago.  12 months ago it was averaging $4.12/day in income.  Now it brings in over $200/day $300/day (as of 7/31/06).  I didn’t spend a dime on marketing or promotion.  In fact, I started this site with just $9 to register the domain name, and everything was bootstrapped from there.  Would you like to know how I did it?

Do you actually want to monetize your blog?

Some people have strong personal feelings with respect to making money from their blogs.  If you think commercializing your blog is evil, immoral, unethical, uncool, lame, greedy, obnoxious, or anything along those lines, then don’t commercialize it.

Does Your Business Need a Blog?

We all know (or should know by now!) that having a web site for a business can greatly improve a business’s customer reach and credibility. But did you know that also having a blog (Also known as weblog) can make wonders for a business as well? A study in 2005 showed that almost 50 million Internet users read blogs during the first quarter of 2005. If that’s not enough to convince you that your business should have a blog here is three more:

1) Blogs allow a business to add that personal touch. Something that’s far to often forgotten by companies. When I say personal I don’t mean tell them you darkest secrets, but since blogs are updated by individuals, each person’s personality will be seen in their post.

Search engines are better at spidering than you. Of course, you need a professional looking site, easy to navigate, appropriate content and size. Many webmasters and sites are great at displaying graphics (flash) and visually appealing sections on their sites. However, the search engines really don’t care much about that. If you can give the spiders what they want, they not only will eat it up fast, but you will provide content-rich, relevant data to their index (database). NUMBER 1: Learn the SEO concepts.

SEO tries to ensure that your web pages appear at the top of the search engines for target keyword requests. It increases brand awareness, qualified traffic and revenue. Fact: Only 1/2 of the people visiting look at the sponsored (paid) ads (PPC) and only 20% of those actually click. However, 4 out of 5 total clicks - apply their mouse on natural search results. Therefore SEO done right can really elevate your business visibility and revenue. Additionally, the top 5 sites returned from any search are where the action is. Your goal? You should be in the top 10 (Search Engines Results Pages (SERPS)) for your selected keywords.

NUMBER 2: Research the competition.

I am sure you do this no matter what business you are in - whether online or not (brick and mortar). If not, this is one of the big steps missed by online businesses.
