stop words & filter words

Stop Words

When searching for keyword phrases, search engines ignore stop words. This is done in order to speed up the search process and save space on the server.

Saving Space

Search engines exclude the search words in a search query by replacing stop words with a marker. Example: “outsourcing in

USA

” is a search query. The stop word “in” is marked with “*” and the search will be conducted for “outsourcing *

USA

”.

Speeding the search process

Search engines exclude stop words from the search query. Stop words can be adverbs, conjunctions etc.

Some major search engines such as Google along with other search engines automatically searches for stop words in the search phrases.
