Fight trackback spam

I  was hit with 11 trackbacks last night, i was like wow but all of which were spam, just for promotion of the referring website.

Trackback spam is a growing problem on weblogs; spammers put links to web sites in blog, in an attempt to boost the rankings of their sites. The search engines will start honoring a special tag that lets comments be marked as links that should not count towards a site’s rating.

I found a tool to solve this trackback spam problem- MT-TrackbackAntiSpam

The way it works is fairly simple - if the incoming trackback does not come from the host as stated in the URL, we reject the trackback. For example, if a trackback from url http://online-poker.psxtreme.com/ comes from 194.63.235.156 (an open proxy), then it is likely to be spam. (online-poker.psxtreme.com does not resolved to 194.63.235.156).

Email and Blog monitoring tools are launched

Demo@15 touts technology to stop inappropriate messages

During the Demo@15 conference on Monday afternoon, three companies unveiled products that monitor messages to detect anything from inappropriate language to sending out proprietary corporate data.

WhatCounts demonstrated BlogUnit Series, a 1U hardware device plus software that manages corporate blogs before they are published. The blog software is centrally controlled and can be linked to both LDAP and Radius servers to control approvals before publishing, content viewing, and broadcasting.

Versioning and workflow control also allows content managers to roll back to previous versions of a post and maintain an audit trail of all versions.

BlogUnit will be available March 1, priced at around $10,000.
